OTTAWA, ON, Oct. 20, 2026 /CNW/ — As we celebrate Small Business Week from October 19 to 25, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is here to support Canada’s small business community.

Running a business in a changing environment comes with challenges – including managing your tax affairs. This Small Business Week, we’re sharing tax information, tools, and services to help you stay informed, meet your tax obligations, and focus on your business.

What’s new

Manage Balance for Businesses is now available in My Business Account

The CRA has expanded its Manage balance service to My Business Account, providing business owners with new self-service options.

Building on the Manage balance service launched in My Account in October 2025 for individuals with personal income tax or COVID-19 benefit debts of $1,000 or more, the new business service allows business owners (including partners, directors, and officers) to manage outstanding payroll, GST/HST, and corporate income tax (T2) debt online without contacting a collections officer. Through the service, users can explore payment options and request assistance through a secure self-service experience.

Users can:

  • make a payment toward an outstanding balance
  • set up a payment arrangement based on their business’s financial situation
  • request a call back from the CRA when additional assistance is needed

Important for representatives: Manage Balance for Businesses is not available through Represent a Client. Payroll professionals, accountants, bookkeepers, and other authorized representatives cannot use the service on behalf of their clients. Representatives should advise clients who wish to use these features to sign in to My Business Account and access the service directly.

Manage Balance for Businesses is part of the CRA’s ongoing efforts to provide secure, convenient digital services that help Canadians manage their tax obligations online.

Email notifications for SIN updates on business accounts

The CRA now sends an email notification to the email address in your T1 personal income tax account when your Social Insurance Number (SIN) is added to or updated on a business account.

This additional notification helps protect your personal and business information by keeping you informed of changes involving your SIN and may help you identify unauthorized activity on a business account.

To receive these notifications, make sure the email address in your T1 personal income tax account is up to date.

If you receive a notification about a SIN update on a business account that you did not request or do not recognize, contact the Business Enquiries line:

  • Canada and the United States: 1-800-959-5525
  • Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut: 1-866-841-1876
  • Outside Canada and the United States (collect calls accepted): 1-613-940-8497

Authentication step for individuals, authorized representatives, and tax preparers.

For the upcoming tax season, the CRA is introducing an optional new authentication step to enhance the security of online tax filing for individuals, authorized representatives, and tax preparers.

To complete the authentication step, users will need to sign in to their CRA account. While this step is optional, completing it adds an extra layer of security by verifying that you are filing or adjusting a tax return for yourself or are authorized to file or adjust a tax return on behalf of another individual.

You can find more information at The CRA is enhancing security for online income tax and benefit return filing.

The CRA is offering additional payment methods

The CRA is expanding its services by introducing Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Konek as secure and convenient payment options, as of October 9, 2026. This will give Canadians more flexibility to make payments across CRA platforms while expanding access to participating financial institutions and credit unions.

Apple Pay and Google Pay supports debit cards, including Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard, from participating financial institutions and credit unions. Konek offers Interac Direct for payments from chequing, savings, or line of credit accounts, along with Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard through participating institutions.

You can find more information at Pay with a debit card through the CRA’s My Payment service.

Corporations: Update director and officer information and access CRA services

If a director or officer joins or leaves a corporation, or if their information changes, it is important to update the CRA’s records as soon as possible. Keeping this information current helps directors and officers access CRA services, use My Business Account, manage corporate tax information, and authorize representatives.

The CRA uses director and officer information to confirm who can act on behalf of a corporation. Outdated information can delay access to My Business Account, representative authorizations, and other CRA services.

If you are a corporation, find out how to update director and officer information and access CRA services.
