EDC and Türk Eximbank sign agreement to strengthen Canada-Türkiye trade and investment

Partnership will help advance trade, investment and global opportunities for both nations

OTTAWA, ON and ISTANBUL, Oct. 26, 2026 /CNW/ — Export Development Canada (EDC) and Türk Eximbank have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen commercial ties between Canada and Türkiye and to create new trade and investment opportunities for businesses in both countries.

The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between Canada’s export credit agency and Türkiye’s official export credit agency. Through the partnership, EDC and Türk Eximbank will explore opportunities to support Canadian and Turkish companies pursuing projects and business opportunities in international markets, particularly in Africa, the Middle East, North Africa (MENA) region, and Central Asia as well as other markets of mutual interest.

Canada and Türkiye offer strong opportunities for bilateral trade and investment. In 2025, two-way merchandise trade between Canada and Türkiye exceeded CAD$4.3 billion. Canadian merchandise exports totalled CAD$1.1 billion, while imports from Türkiye reached CAD$3.2 billion. Canada’s leading exports to Türkiye include agri-food products, aircraft and transportation equipment, and industrial machinery. Imports from Türkiye to Canada are primarily consumer goods, metal and non-metallic mineral products, and forestry, building and packaging materials.

The agreement encourages collaboration in sectors where Canadian and Turkish companies have complementary strengths, including energy and energy transition, infrastructure, transportation, mining and critical minerals, and social infrastructure.

In addition to exploring project opportunities, the organizations will examine options for co-financing, co-insurance, co-guarantees and reinsurance, while also sharing knowledge and best practices related to export credit, trade finance and international business development.
