IBX builds on BBE’s more than 30 years in Inuvik, combining Northern logistics expertise with Inuvialuit participation and regional knowledge across the Western Arctic

EDMONTON, AB and INUVIK, NT, Oct. 22, 2026 /CNW/ — BBE is marking 10 years of partnership with Inuvialuit Development Corporation (IDC) through Inuvialuit BBE Expediting Ltd. (IBX). The relationship was established to support logistics and supply chain activity in Canada’s Western Arctic while creating meaningful Inuvialuit participation in the region’s economy.

IBX was established in 2016 by BBE and Inuvialuit Development Corporation

Formed in 2016, IBX brings together BBE’s three decades on the ground in Inuvik and its broader experience in complex, remote and Northern supply chains with IDC’s regional knowledge, relationships and long-term economic mandate.

“The future of the Western Arctic will depend on reliable logistics, strong regional partnerships and the ability to move people, materials and supplies where they are needed. IBX brings those elements together as a trusted business to support growth, infrastructure and opportunity across the region,” said Annie Steen, IDC Chair.

The partnership reflects BBE’s broader approach to Northern logistics: working with organizations and communities that have a long-term stake in the region, rather than simply operating in it.

“BBE has spent decades building expertise in Northern and remote logistics, but expertise alone is not enough,” said Heather Stewart, CEO of BBE. “The strongest solutions come from combining operational capability with local knowledge, relationships and meaningful participation. Our ten-year relationship with Inuvialuit Development Corporation is an important example of what that looks like in practice.”

That approach matters more as defence and infrastructure investment concentrates in the Western Arctic. Inuvik is one of four NORAD Forward Operating Locations in Canada and a designated Northern Operational Support Hub. The Department of National Defence is investing up to $230 million to extend the Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport runway to 9,000 feet and modernize its lighting, navigation and military landing systems. In August, the federal government also committed up to $49.5 million through the Arctic Infrastructure Fund to upgrade the existing runway and access road.

Projects like these depend on supply chains that can perform across long distances, extreme conditions and limited seasonal transportation windows. Through IBX, customers gain access to logistics and supply chain services backed by local presence and regional knowledge, together with BBE’s broader freight forwarding, customs brokerage, air charter and procurement capabilities.

“Ten years is an important milestone, but it is also a foundation for what comes next,” Stewart said. “We are grateful to Inuvialuit Development Corporation for the trust and partnership we have built together, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen IBX and support future opportunities across the Western Arctic.”
