Dollars + Sense builds on successful British Columbia pilot to provide students in grades 4-8 with practical money skills and confidence

TORONTO and VANCOUVER, Oct. 29, 2026 /CNW/ — RBC and Seaspan today announced a strategic collaboration with Everfi to bring the Dollars + Sense digital financial education program to Canadian students in grades 4 through 8. Available at no cost to schools, the program helps students build foundational money skills and confidence at an early age, preparing them to navigate increasingly complex financial decisions.

Dollars + Sense builds on a pilot launched by Seaspan in British Columbia in mid-2025 that brought financial education to more than 130 schools and reached more than 3,700 students. With RBC joining the collaboration, the program is expanding across Canada and will reach at least 750 schools annually over three years.

About the Program

The Dollars + Sense program covers three digital financial education courses.

  • Vault: Understanding Money (grades 4-6): Introduces foundational financial concepts, including responsible money choices, saving, budgeting, credit, and planning for the future.
  • SaveUp: Saving Money for the Future (grades 6-8): Teaches students how to save and spend wisely, set financial goals, understand how savings accounts work, and build emergency savings.
  • FutureSmart™: Financial Literacy (grades 6-8): Helps students build practical money-management skills through real-world decisions involving budgeting, saving, spending, career exploration, and planning for future education and financial goals.

In addition to the educational resources, RBC volunteers will also work with teachers to support classroom learning — virtually or in person — to help students understand concepts, answer questions, and bring real-world financial expertise to life.

“We here at Seaspan are extremely excited to be working with RBC and Everfi to roll out the Dollars + Sense financial literacy curriculum across Canada. This is an opportunity we recognized several years ago, and it’s exciting to see it grow into a program that can reach students across the country. We all believe there is tremendous opportunity to teach young people more about money and personal finances. Dollars + Sense makes that learning interactive, practical and relevant to real life.” – Kyle Washington, Chairman, Seaspan.

“Financial confidence isn’t built overnight; it starts with the lessons young people learn long before the stakes get high. We’re proud to work alongside Everfi and Seaspan to bring those lessons into Canadian classrooms early, when habits are still being formed. And we’re thrilled to go beyond banking with RBC volunteers providing their time to teachers and students to help bring concepts to life in the classroom. Our support reflects who we are at RBC: deeply committed to the communities we serve and to empowering people with the tools and guidance they need to plan for what matters most.” – Erica Nielsen, Group Head, RBC Personal Banking.

“The strongest financial education connects classroom learning to the real-world decisions students will face. Together with RBC and Seaspan, we’re giving educators across Canada engaging digital resources that help students build practical skills they can carry into the future.” – Ray Martinez, CEO, Everfi

Across Canada, financial literacy is becoming an increasingly important part of students’ education, from Ontario’s new financial literacy graduation requirement to financial literacy curriculum efforts in Alberta and Saskatchewan. With financial education integrated into curriculum requirements, Dollars + Sense provides schools and teachers with turnkey digital resources along with a team of former educators who support the implementation.

RBC and Seaspan will celebrate the new financial education program on November 9 at Allan A. Martin Senior Public School in Mississauga, and École Cedardale in West Vancouver, by working with students to build their financial knowledge through interactive games that quiz them on topics such as credit scores, savings vehicles, and payment types. Since launching at the start of the school year, the program has already reached more than 400 schools and more than 4,400 students across Canada.
