Most Health AI Ends With “Talk to Your Doctor.” Felix’s New AI Assistant Brings Yours In.

‘Ask Felix’ pairs with each patient’s Felix human care team to answer care-related questions, act on everyday requests and bring concerns to their healthcare practitioner. It is the first product built from the ground up on Felix’s newly published Patient-First AI Principles.

TORONTO, Nov. 4, 2026 /CNW/ — Health questions rarely wait for an appointment, yet most AI health tools end the same way: talk to your doctor. Today Felix launched Ask Felix, an AI assistant that pairs with each patient’s Felix care team and provides around-the-clock support between clinician visits. Patients ask about their care in their own words, and Ask Felix acts: answering the question, handling a request like pausing a refill, or bringing the concern to their practitioner.

“Patients shouldn’t have to figure out who to contact before they can get help,” said Avrum Laurie, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Felix. “We didn’t build a general-purpose chatbot. We built an AI assistant that’s part of your care and, with your permission, understands your unique health history. Ask Felix handles what it can directly. When a concern needs clinical judgment, it brings your practitioner in with the full picture, so you don’t have to repeat your story and you get to the right next step sooner.”

More than answers: Ask Felix takes action and connects you to care

During the beta, approximately 7 in 10 conversations were about in-treatment care, such as medication use, treatment progress, side effects or practical questions like how to use an injection pen or travel with medication.

  • Answers grounded in your treatment. With the patient’s permission, Ask Felix draws on their medical history with Felix, so its answers and guidance on next steps reflect their actual care.
  • Action, not just advice. Patients can request Ask Felix to pause an upcoming refill, or to speak with a practitioner if they’re running low on medication.
  • A direct line to your human care team. For questions that need clinical judgment, Ask Felix gathers the relevant details and prepares a summary for the patient to review and send to their practitioner. Patients with an active treatment or ongoing test can always message their practitioner for, and the median time for non-urgent handoff from Ask Felix to a human clinician is 45 minutes or less.

“Care doesn’t begin and end with an appointment,” said Emma Stern, co-founder and COO of Felix. “Felix has always offered connected, continuous care, built on the promise that ‘Felix will see you now.’ The launch of Ask Felix now carries that promise even further, by adding an extra layer of patient support.”

Built on Patient-First AI Principles

Each of Felix’s Patient-First AI Principles shaped a specific part of how Ask Felix works:

  • First, do no harm. Every message passes through 17 safety checks before it reaches the main AI model. When a patient describes symptoms that may be urgent, Ask Felix directs them to emergency services or a practitioner.
  • Support human care, never replace it. Ask Felix is designed to understand what it can and should handle, and what’s best deferred to a human practitioner. Diagnosis, prescribing and dose decisions always stay with practitioners.
  • Grounded in Canadian care and your health history. Ask Felix doesn’t make up clinical information. Any statement it makes about a patient’s health or treatments is substantiated against their actual health record, with permission, so patients get specific, relevant direction instead of generic answers from across the internet.
  • Personal to you, controlled by you. Patients choose whether Ask Felix can see their health information and can change that choice at any time. Patient data is never used to train AI models.

The principles also cover safety, fairness, privacy, transparency and accountability. Read Patient-First AI Principles here: felixforyou.ca/ai-principles/
