OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 5, 2026 /CNW/ — During Veterans’ Week, we honour Canadians who have served our country in uniform across generations, at home and abroad. We also remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and recognize the families and communities affected by their loss.

Having witnessed the devastating effects of armed conflict throughout my career, I deeply appreciate the courage and dedication of those who serve to protect our peace, security and democratic values. Their service reminds us of the immense human cost of war and the importance of upholding international law.

This year, as the Royal Canadian Legion marks its centennial, we recognize its enduring contribution to preserving the memory of those who served and ensuring that remembrance remains an important part of our daily lives.

In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, let us honour those who came before us, remember those we have recently lost, and reaffirm our support for all who serve Canada. Let us also recognize the families who stand beside them and share the challenges, uncertainties and sacrifices of military service.

Together, we can ensure that those who serve, and those who support them, receive the compassion, respect and care they deserve. By remembering their sacrifices and supporting their well-being, we help uphold the values they have worked so hard to protect.

Louise Arbour
