This investor likes IBM right now
In an appearance on BNN Bloomberg Market Call on March 27, Velocity Investment Partners chief investment officer Brianne Gardner said she likes IBM (IBM Stock Quote, Chart, News, Analysts, Financials NYSE:IBM) because the company combines a stable core business with several emerging growth drivers, while still trading at what she views as a reasonable valuation.
Gardner said IBM remains deeply embedded in critical enterprise systems, giving it a durable base business, while its consulting arm is benefiting from demand tied to AI implementation.
She also pointed to the company’s position in hybrid cloud, where it helps customers manage data across multiple environments and to its early work in quantum computing, which she said is already being applied to materials design with potential implications for energy, healthcare and manufacturing.
“IBM is a name we like because it’s growing from multiple angles while still trading at a reasonable valuation,” Gardner said.
Gardner said the stock’s pullback in February appeared to reflect broader rotation and profit-taking across technology rather than a company-specific issue.
IBM shares have fallen 5.36% over the past 12 months but are up 77.77% over five years. Among analysts covering the stock, 12 rate it “Buy,” eight rate it “Hold” and two rate it “Sell,” with a consensus price target of US$320.15.
