Today’s health-related news from Amazon (Amazon Stock Quote, Chart, News, Analysts, Financials Nasdaq:AMZN) includes the introduction of a new health care benefit for Prime members. This benefit allows Prime members to access One Medical health care for a monthly fee of $9 or an annual fee of $99, providing a significant discount off the standard membership fee. Additionally, Prime members can extend this benefit to up to five additional family members at reduced rates.
Moreover, Amazon Clinic, which offers care for over 35 common health concerns such as asthma, eczema, acid reflux, and pinkeye, is now available in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. This service provides greater access to licensed clinicians for virtual care, particularly beneficial for those without health insurance.
Amazon has also partnered with One Medical to deliver primary care that is tailored to individual needs, with most major insurance plans being accepted. Prime members have the added benefit of getting eligible medications for a flat rate of $5 a month.
While these developments mark significant progress in Amazon’s health operation, the company’s executives acknowledge that it is still years away from being a major disruptor in the vast $4 trillion health care industry.
Amazon announced its plans to acquire One Medical, a telehealth and primary care service provider, on July 21st, and the acquisition deal was valued at approximately $3.9 billion.
