Fibernetics Acquires Calgary’s Nucleus Information Services For Western Expansion

fibernetics Cambridge, Ontario’s Fibernetics, a voice and data infrastructure provider for both residential and business users, has acquired Calgary’s Nucleus Information Services Inc., the city’s first ISP, founded back in 1993.

The deal allows Fibernetics to expand into western Canada, and reciprocally offers Nucleus access to NEWT Business Services, as well as the Worldline Residential Home Phone and Internet services offered by Fibernetics.

Nucleus is the largest independently owned and operated ISP in Western Canada.

Nucleus is headquartered in Calgary, with an office in Edmonton, and offers business grade voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) and internet services.

The acquisition will add approximately 2 million customers to Fibernetics’ existing customer base in Ontario and Quebec, according to CTO Francisco Dominguez.

Fibernetics has 200 employees in offices in Ontario, Bulgaria and the Dominican Republic, and serves over 300,000 customers daily.

Their NEWT private branch exchange (PBX) system is a voice and data carrier that bypasses the internet at large in favour of keeping customers’ communications on a private network run by Fibernetics. The provide hardware and replace existing business phone lines, purporting to save businesses approximately 80% on their communications bills. There is also a “softphone” virtual version of the hardware.
