Last week, a Google Glass Explorer named Brian Buquoi in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, received a card along with his replacement Glass product which stated, “This unit of the Google Glass Explorer Edition has been approved for use in Canada by Industry Canada…”
The card is perhaps an ultra stealth announcement by Google, or just an early “oops” moment preceding a major media rollout.
Nothing official has been announced by Google, but the card clearly states that Glass has been approved by Industry Canada.
But while the url given on the card (http://goo.gl/lEcEhV) does lead to the Google Glass Product Info page, the regulatory info there still only applies to the United States and the EU, with no mention of Canada or Industry Canada. There is also no mention whatsoever of Google Glass on the Industry Canada website.
If Industry Minister James Moore had wanted to make an announcement regarding Industry Canada’s stance on the matter, he would have found no better moment than last week, on September 17, when he spoke at Google’s offices in Washington, D.C., where he was addressing a meeting of the Canadian American Business Council on the subject of internet privacy.

And yet he made no mention of it. So, either everyone is bound to secrecy until the press secretaries at Google and Industry Canada have written up their respective press releases, or both entities thought no official announcement would be necessary for one of the softest rollouts in tech history.
Google launched Glass in the U.K. earlier this summer, to a fair amount of hoopla.
So while the card Buquoi found in his Glass product is certainly intriguing, it remains to be seen if the cat truly is out of the Glass bag on the device’s northern availability.
