MONTRÉAL, July 2, 2026 /CNW/ – Returning home from a fishing trip, Joseph Gosselin-Rompré and Mylène Bourgeois, a couple from the Montérégie region, got the surprise of a lifetime: they’d won the $40 million jackpot in the June 26 Lotto Max draw. The new multimillionaires now plan to make the most of the summer–and their newfound financial freedom. Their plans include buying a fishing boat and fitting in more rounds of golf than they ever imagined!

“This is the second time in just over a month that a Lotto Max jackpot has been won in Québec. Let’s hope this lucky streak continues throughout the summer. A jackpot win has a positive ripple effect on the winner, their loved ones, and the wider community. Loto-Québec benefits the people of Québec in so many ways, and this is just one of them,” pointed out Isabelle Jean, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games at Loto-Québec.

Highlights

  • Joseph Gosselin-Rompré found out he won while returning from a fishing trip.
  • “We couldn’t believe it at first,” he said, recalling the amount displayed on his phone screen. Just to be sure, he went to a retailer to validate the ticket. The result? It really was true–the couple had won $40,000,000 with Lotto Max!
  • Gosselin-Rompré, who is in his forties, says the windfall will allow him to spend more time on his two favourite hobbies: fishing and golfing. He also plans to buy a boat and treat himself to a golf getaway. Safe to say, he’s looking forward to making the most of the summer season!
  • The newly minted multimillionaires also plan to spoil their three children and are mulling over whether to sell or renovate their family home.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Boni Soir convenience store located at 2455 Chemin Saint-Roch in Sorel-Tracy. The retailer will receive a 1% commission of $400,000.
