Intellijoint Surgical partners with Corin Group for Australian expansion

IntellijointHIPWaterloo, Ontario’s Intellijoint Surgical Inc. is expanding into the international marketplace, upon entering into a strategic partnership with orthopaedic innovator Corin Group, giving Corin distribution rights in Australia for Intellijoint’s flagship product, the intellijoint HIP.
The agreement paves the way for co-development opportunities and broader distribution agreements between Intellijoint Surgical and Corin Group.
The intellijoint HIP, an example of miniature 3D surgical measurement technology in the sterile field, is a smart surgical instrument that allows orthopaedic surgeons to control several key measurements to ensure a better outcome for hip replacement patients.
“We are pleased to partner with Corin to offer intellijoint HIP to surgeons in Australia,” says says Intellijoint Surgical CEO and co-founder Armen Bakirtzian. “The broader capability of Corin’s organization and their commitment to innovation will expand access to the latest technology available for 3D surgical measurement to the growing Australian hip replacement market where surgeons currently perform about 45,000 procedures annually. We look forward to the beginning of a meaningful relationship between our two companies and are excited about future opportunities.”
intellijoint HIP provides surgeons with intraoperative measurements in real time, enabling proper establishment of cup position, equalization of leg length and restoration of hip offset, which enables surgeons and hospitals to improve surgical outcomes by reducing risk, while improving patient outcomes and lowering cost.
Founded in 1985, U.K.-based Corin Group has overseen the development and introduction of several innovative products in the orthopaedic market.
“We are delighted to partner with such a progressive company as Intellijoint Surgical, and are excited about our future collaboration,” said Corin Chief Operating Officer Russ Mably. “This partnership will further strengthen our market leading position in functional implant positioning with our existing OPS Technology (Optimized Positioning System), and underlines our commitment to continue to invest in Personalized Procedural Innovation.”
Founded in 2010, privately held Intellijoint Surgical aims to develop and commercialize miniaturized surgical smart tools.
The company’s R&D team team of renowned orthopaedic surgeons includes Drs. Allan Gross and David Backstein in Toronto, Dr. Wayne Paprosky in Chicago, Dr. Javad Parvizi in Philadelphia and Drs. Michael Cross and Ran Schwarzkopf in New York, and is led by the former co-founder of Medtronic’s computer assisted surgery division, Eric Ryterski.
intellijoint HIP has been used in over 300 procedures in the US and Canada.
In January, the intellijoint HIP was awarded US Food and Drug Administration clearance.
