Montreal password management company PasswordBox has won the Mobile App Showdown competition, staged by conference producer Living In Digital Times, at Las Vegas’ 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show. PasswordBox triumphed in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Centre over nine other finalists.

App developers submitted their app for consideration in early December, which were evaluated by a panel of judges comprised of tech journalists, consultants and reviewers, who then whittled the field down to 25 semi-finalists. The judges themselves further thinned the pack to a final top 10 through a process of debate.

While Ballerz, an app that facilitates organizing real-life pick-up games with friends, got the most votes in the online competition, PasswordBox took the in-person, on-stage competition, measured by an applause-o-meter. Quite a feat considering that their offerings include a Legacy Locker, meant to facilitate your digital files after you’re dead.

“PasswordBox is honored to be recognized as an innovator and technology leader in the app space,” said Magaly Charbonneau, COO of PasswordBox. “This is an exciting achievement for us as we enter 2014, and we will have more mobile innovation to share in the weeks to come.”

The event was co-hosted by Jon Hein and Gary Dell’Abate, of Howard Stern’s Wrap Up Show, and emceed by Robin Raskin, creator of the Mobile App Showdown, who crowed, “We’ve got the showgirls and swag but most of all we’ve got fantastic products that are changing the world from bike riding and car driving, to both buying and finding your glasses.”
The showgirls were backed up by a couple of rappers and a live-music jam session punctuated by skits, prizes and trivia questions.

PasswordBox’s celebration was both sweet and short-lived, followed by a curt forward-looking post on its blog regarding a yet-to-be-announced patent-pending technology. “Of course, we won’t be celebrating this for too long – we’re working hard in preparation for the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of February, and we’ll have another exciting announcement to share that you won’t want to miss.”
