Toronto-based social video networking platform Keek says it has become the number one social networking app in the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.
Management says more than 200,000 new users are joining its platform each day, and it is starting to get traction in Latin America and Africa.
Keek founder and CEO Isaac Raichyk says the recent success is the result of careful planning.
“Keek is ranking number one for a reason,” he said in a press release today. “Users like that our app is extremely fast, fun and easy to use. We are obsessed with speed and our goal is to keep Keek fast, fun and free as we continue to grow.”
Keek allows its users to upload video status updates, called “keeks” to Keek.com, or via Android and iPhone mobile apps. Those who are camera shy can reply with a text, and the service can be embedded into a user’s web site. The service, which has been described as a video-based Twitter, has raised more than $30-million from investors such as AGF, Pinetree Capital, Plazacorp Ventures, and Cranston Capital.
The site has attracted high-profile Gen Y users such as Kim Kardashian, Jesse McCartney and Kylie Jenner.
