Smyth Casting Expands to Northern Ontario, Announces Key Partnerships and NOHFC Eligibility

SUDBURY, ON, June 24, 2025 /CNW/ – Smyth Casting Inc. is proud to announce its expansion into Northern Ontario, opening the door to both principal and background casting opportunities across the region. This exciting growth also marks Smyth Casting’s eligibility for the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), making it easier than ever for productions to tap into regional funding incentives while accessing top Northern talent and resources.

Ilona Smyth will lead the principal casting expansion in the North. With more than two decades of experience, she is widely recognized for discovering fresh talent, building strong relationships with top agencies, and consistently delivering under pressure—on time and on budget. Her casting credits include over 200 film, television, and commercial productions.

Leading background casting in the North is Kelly Lamb, owner of That Creative Loft and a seasoned casting professional based in Sudbury.

Northern Ontario has such a vibrant and growing film community,” says Lamb. “Being based in Sudbury allows me to provide hands-on support and connect productions with amazing local talent—whether they need ten background performers or a hundred.”

Lamb began her casting career casting background performers on the feature film Country Crush, Hard Rock Medical. More recently, she contributed to The Royal Chen Jones (North Bay), Rever En Neon (Sudbury). Finally connecting with Smyth over the casting for Shoresy. Fully bilingual in English and French, she offers in-person support directly from her Sudbury office.

Joining the team as Casting Assistant and Lead Wrangler is Rizzo Jeppesen, a familiar face in the Northern Ontario film community. Known for her versatility and deep passion for film, she’s a trusted presence on set, respected by both talent and crew.

This new chapter positions Smyth Casting to better support productions filming in Sudbury, North Bay, and across the North—offering local expertise, experienced personnel, and boots-on-the-ground support. With a passion for casting and a deep love of the work, the Northern team is ready to meet the region’s growing production needs.
