Speaking on BNN Bloomberg’s Market Call on Jan. 20, Purpose Investments portfolio manager Nick Mersch said Fluence Energy (Fluence Stock Quote, Chart, News, Analysts, Financials NASDAQ:FLNC) is well positioned to benefit from the growing need for on-site power generation and storage, particularly as data-centre demand accelerates.

Mersch framed the thesis around “bring your own generation,” noting that reliable power supply increasingly requires paired storage.

He said Fluence, which was formed as a joint venture between AES Corporation and Siemens, has emerged as a leading provider of large-scale battery energy storage systems, delivering turnkey installations that combine hardware with grid-management software.

He added that Fluence’s modular battery platforms allow excess energy from renewable sources such as solar and wind to be stored and released on demand, helping utilities and commercial customers stabilize grids amid volatile usage patterns. That capability, he said, is becoming increasingly important as grid congestion and reliability issues drive higher electricity costs in regions seeing rapid data-centre development.

“The sun doesn’t always shine and the wind doesn’t always blow,” Mersch said, adding that battery storage is the most practical solution to improve resiliency as renewable generation scales.

Fluence shares have gained about 80% over the past 12 months. Of analysts covering the stock, three rate it “Buy”, 14 “Hold”, and four “Sell”, with a consensus price target of US$17.13.
