Waterloo's Dejero enables media organizations to broadcast to Facebook Live

Waterloo, Ontario-based Dejero, developers of a platform that enables broadcasters, media organizations and mobile production companies to instantly and cost-effectively reach audiences by simplifying the transport of live video and real-time data across remote or mobile IP networks, has announced the ability to stream to Facebook Live through Dejero mobile transmitters and apps.
For Dejero customers, the new feature allows them to interact with new audiences via high-quality live video, enabled by cloud-based technology, and enhanced with original and supplemental content.
“Dejero’s virtual cloud server is an easy-to-use system that enables us to quickly and efficiently stream high-quality live content to our audiences, using RTMP to social media platforms such as Facebook Live,” said Rogers Media Manager of Broadcast Operations David Boorne. “Dejero’s ability to reliably deliver exceptional picture quality as part of the package is an added bonus.”
Broadcasters can feed live content through Dejero’s LIVE+ Cloud Server, managed via the LIVE+ Control cloud-based management system, going live from remote locations over bonded IP networks, whether cellular, Wi-Fi, Ethernet or satellite.
The content is simultaneously routed to SDI (serial digital interface) or online playout workflows and pushed to the broadcaster’s Facebook followers’ newsfeeds as a real-time messaging protocol (RTMP) high-quality live video stream.
Viewers can also watch the archived video later on the broadcaster’s page for as long as they decide to make it available.
The LIVE+ Control management system allows operators to identify, geolocate, and remotely control transmitters, as well as configure on-premise and cloud servers, while monitoring the mix and the health of the IP network connections in real time.
“We are very conscious that more and more viewers are sourcing content from non-traditional broadcast channels and that broadcasters need to be able to use these social video platforms further and engage with these type of viewers using live content,” said Dejero CEO Brian Cram. “With Dejero’s network bonding technology providing connectivity virtually anywhere, broadcasters can go live from remote locations, even while on the move. With Facebook Live, broadcasters can use their existing Dejero technology, including the professional transmitter equipment and mobile apps to broadcast high-quality live content to their Facebook audiences.”
This integration is happening for Dejero just as Facebook has predicted the death of the written word on its network.
Speaking at at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women International Summit in London recently, Facebook’s vice-president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Nicola Mendelsohn, predicted that Facebook will be “all video” in five years’ time, adding, “We’re seeing a year-on-year decline of text. If I was having a bet, I’d say video, video, video.”
On Tuesday, June 28, Dejero founder and CTO Bogdan Frusina will be speaking on a panel called “Broadcasting in the software-defined age” at the TVBEurope 2020 conference in London.
