Montreal software-defined network (SDN) service provider, and performance assurance solution vendor for mobile backhaul & small cells, Accedian Networks has been assigned the task of ensuring quality of service (QoS) for a mobile provider during the FIFA 2014 World Cup.
In partnership with São Paulo-based partner HTCom, which operates in 20 Brazilian states, providing service solutions for mobile operators and data transmission infrastructure, Accedian’s professional services group has been monitoring for even slight performance variations along the 3G & LTE mobile, broadcast, Internet and data networks using Accedian’s performance monitoring platform.
“Our team understands the impact high-density network use can have on service quality, and deployed our solutions nationwide to establish complete QoS visibility across all sites,” said Patrick Ostiguy, president & CEO of Accedian Networks.
“High-density network use” meaning “everyone trying to access a network at the same time”, particularly when streaming video is involved. So if Robben’s dives or Messi’s free kicks appear smooth, you can thank Accedian Networks’ platform for keeping the infrastructure clear.
Local network traffic can be further challenged when tens of thousands of fans start clogging up the network sending texts or using their cell phones to send selfies, sharing their grief for the Brazil side.
Accedian Networks’ technology uses NVF, or network functions virtualization, to analyze and manage network traffic, keeping an eye on areas threatened by high packet loss or latency. Their other clients include Telus, Wind Mobile, Verizon, Telia Sonera and China Unicom.
The provider for the 2014 World Cup connects press centres with 12 stadiums and the airport, linked to transmission hubs based in São Paulo and Rio de Janiero. Network performance was tested in advance using Accedian Networks’ service activation test functionality.
