How Does Vancouver Stack up Against Other North American Tech Hubs?

The folks at Visual Capitalist have put together another excellent infographic on Vancouver’s tech scene.

This time, the firm looks at how Vancouver stacks up against other North American hotbeds of tech, including Toronto, Waterloo, Seattle, and San Fransisco’s Bay Area. The general conclusion here is that while Vancouver has essentially come out of nowhere to earn a mention in the conversation about tech, it has a long way to go.

Vancouver’s 84,000 tech employees places it well ahead of Waterloo, but behind Toronto (161,000), Seattle (136,000) and The Bay Area (830,000). In terms of completed VC deals, our 61 is less than a third of Seattle’s and is dwarfed by Silicon Valley’s 1247. The graphic however, notes that Vancouver, along with New York and Austin are coming on strong, while Boston, Seattle and Washington are cooling off decidedly.

The rise of tech in Vancouver has meant that the sector now adds a healthy contribution to a diverse provincial economy that has long depended on tourism, resources, and the service industry.

Here’s the infographic.
