The Invest Atlantic conference will be held in Moncton, New Brunswick on October 5th and 6th at the Delta Beauséjour, marking the first time the event has been held outside Halifax in the past six years. Invest Atlantic is the region’s largest investment networking conference, with more than 300 people attending last year and more than that expected this year. At the conference's PitchCamp, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch their business in front of investors, entrepreneurs, and academics in the keynote room during the event's first day. Pitch 101 provides a platform for early-stage or start-up companies, while Pitch 201 is for Mid-Stage or Growth Stage companies, and Pitch 301 for later stage companies with five to 10 years of experience. The opening keynote will be delivered by Moncton native and CEO of Toronto-based cinemagraph company Flixel, Philippe Leblanc, who founded his company in 2011. Leblanc's talk will outline his entrepreneurial journey, from growing a company via $2.2 million in seed funding, some of which was invested by America’s Next Top Model host Tyra Banks, to Flixel's recent status as a beta partner in Facebook’s new Profile Expression Kit, which allows users to incorporate videos created in third-party apps for direct uploading as their profile video, along with other integration partners, including Vine, Boomerang, and Facebook’s new MSQRD app. Day 2 will feature an "Ask the Investors" panel, featuring Sanjay Singhal of 500 Startups Canada, and Clement Ng of Green Century Investment Ltd. Day 2's keynote will feature Sean Wise, a Ryerson University Professor of Entrepreneurship, award-winning author, featured consultant on the Dragons’ Den reality show, and host of the Oprah Winfrey Network's The Naked Entrepreneur. Wise was Startup Mentor of the Year 2014 and Canada’s Startup Laureate for 2016/17, and will address questions such as, "Do I really need to raise money, if so when and from where?" or "When is the best time to quit my full time job?" or "What are the biggest mistakes first time founders make?" and "What can founders do today, to increase the probability of their success tomorrow?" Seminars will cover topics ranging from raising seed money, negotiating with venture capitalists, what to do after an initial investment, non-traditional fundraising like crowdfunding, and selling or exiting your company. Invest Atlantic is presented by the Financial and Consumer Services Commission of New Brunswick, with strategic partners Springboard, a commercialization and industry liaison network, Launch Dal at Dalhousie University, and the Sobey School of Business.
