Supreme Court of Canada to visit Halifax in September 2027
OTTAWA, ON, Sept. 21, 2026 /CNW/ — The Right Honourable Richard Wagner, Chief Justice of Canada, confirmed today that the Supreme Court of Canada will visit Halifax, Nova Scotia, from September 20 to 24, 2027, to hear appeals and meet with members of the public. The visit was first announced by the Chief Justice during his annual press conference in 2025.
The Halifax visit will continue the Court’s tradition of sitting outside Ottawa to bring Canada’s highest court closer to the people it serves. The Court previously visited Winnipeg in 2019 and Quebec City in 2022.
“Visiting communities across Canada is an important way for the Court to strengthen public understanding of its role and the justice system as a whole,” said Chief Justice Wagner. “These visits allow Canadians to see the Court in action, learn more about how our justice system works and engage directly with members of the Court. We are delighted to have the opportunity to visit Halifax and connect with Nova Scotians.”
The Court is working closely with all of Nova Scotia’s courts, as well as legal and community partners across the province, to prepare for the visit.

Wood. “Hosting Canada’s highest court is a unique opportunity for Nova Scotians to see it firsthand. The Court’s presence in Halifax will help build meaningful connections with the public and further strengthen confidence in the administration of justice.”
As it did while in Winnipeg and Quebec City, the Court will participate in a variety of activities with members of the public, students and the legal community.
