MEDIA ADVISORY – Itinerary for the Supreme Court of Canada Visit to Thunder Bay
OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 10, 2025 /CNW/ – Judges from the Supreme Court of Canada will visit Thunder Bay, Ontario, on November 17 and 18, 2025 as part of the Court’s 150th anniversary commemorations.
Chief Justice Richard Wagner, Justice Malcolm Rowe and Justice Michelle O’Bonsawin will take part in various events involving members of the public, high school and university students, the local legal and judicial communities, and the media.
Journalists wishing to cover the visit should consult the schedule below to know which sessions are open to media.
Monday, November 17
8:00 – Media Availability (open to media – preregistration is required)
Delta Hotel, Falls Room, 2240 Sleeping Giant Parkway, Thunder Bay, ON
The event will take place in person or via Zoom (hybrid format)
Chief Justice Richard Wagner will make brief remarks and answer questions from journalists. The Chief Justice will be joined by Supreme Court Justices Malcolm Rowe and Michelle O’Bonsawin as well as the Chief Justice of Ontario, the Honourable Michael Tulloch. For media registration, please email media@scc-csc.ca. Media attending virtually will be provided with a link to participate.
9:30 am – Public event: “Beyond the bench: a dialogue with Judges of the Supreme Court of Canada” (open to media – preregistration required)
Thunder Bay Courthouse, 125 Brodie Street N, Thunder Bay, ON
Chief Justice Wagner and Justices Malcolm Rowe and Michelle O’Bonsawin will answer questions from the public on a wide range of topics during this town-hall style event. The event will begin with a welcoming ceremony with Indigenous leaders. For media registration, please email media@scc-csc.ca.
Afternoon – Visits to local secondary schools (closed to media)
Judges will meet with students at three local secondary schools and answer their questions on our judicial system.
Evening – Event with the local judiciary (closed to media)
Judges will take part in an event with representatives from local courts.
Tuesday, November 18
Morning – Visit to the Kinna-aweya Legal Aid Clinic (closed to media)
Judges will visit the Kinna-aweya Legal Aid Clinic.
Afternoon – Visit with law students from Lakehead University (closed to media)
Judges will meet with students and faculty members at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University.
Evening – Event with the legal community (closed to media)
Judges will take part in an event with members of the local legal community.
