Canadian company expands the conversation about inheritance beyond financial assets to include the perspective, judgment, values and lessons accumulated through living

OAKVILLE, ON, Sept. 23, 2026 /CNW/ — Canada is experiencing the largest intergenerational wealth transfer in its history, with an estimated $1 trillion to $2 trillion expected to move between generations over the next two decades.

Elena Iacono, founder of Canadian company LegacyNex, believes the conversation about inheritance is still missing something important.

“What we learn through living has value beyond us,” says Iacono. “Over a lifetime, we accumulate more than financial assets. We accumulate perspective, judgment, values, stories and lessons. Those things can be incredibly useful to the people we love; but unlike financial assets, they don’t pass on automatically.”

Iacono calls this Human Inheritance, the perspective, judgment, values, stories and lessons accumulated through living that can be intentionally shared with others.

Through professionally guided conversations, LegacyNex helps people put their Human Inheritance into words and share it in their own words and voice. Human Inheritance Collections are created as written books, edited audio recordings, or both.

“The objective isn’t simply to help a family learn more about someone,” says Iacono. “It’s to give them the opportunity to learn from them.”

The company also works with IG Private Wealth Management as a preferred partner, bringing Human Inheritance Collections alongside the financial and estate planning families already undertake.

“LegacyNex helps preserve the stories, values and experiences behind a family’s wealth through guided conversations and professionally crafted legacy narratives,” Christine Van Cauwenberghe, head of financial planning at IG Wealth Management, previously told Investment Executive.

“We’ve long known that 70% of family wealth is lost by the second generation and 90% by the third,” she said. “The issue is rarely the financial plan itself. It’s the lack of preparation and communication across generations. Too often, assets are transferred without the purpose, values and lessons that created them. LegacyNex helps families pass on not just wealth, but wisdom.”

“We have sophisticated ways of transferring what people own,” says Iacono. “Human Inheritance is about becoming equally intentional about sharing what people know.”

Unlike traditional inheritance, Human Inheritance can be given now. Clients are creating Collections around milestone birthdays, retirement, becoming grandparents and other significant life moments, sharing what a lifetime has taught them while they can participate in the experience themselves.

“This isn’t about recreating someone after they’re gone,” says Iacono. “The human remains the source: their actual experiences, thinking, words and voice.”

For Iacono, the opportunity is to broaden what families consider worth transferring.

“Financial inheritance can help someone build a life. Human Inheritance can give them greater access to the people whose lives helped shape their own.”
