Saskatoon's International Road Dynamics lands New York transportation contract

Saskatoon’s International Road Dynamics Inc. (TSE:IRD) has secured a five-year $4.8 million U.S. contract from the New York State Department of Transportation to install, upgrade, repair, operate and maintain NYSDOT permanent data collection sites located in Metro New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland and Westchester Counties.
Most of the sites at these locations already have IRD data collection equipment, and are comprised of fixed in-road sensors for monitoring traffic.
“We are pleased to receive this long-term commitment to provide repair and maintenance services to the State of New York. IRD has participated in similar Traffic Data Services agreements with the NYSDOT over the past ten years, and we look forward to continuing this relationship and delivering value to this long term customer,” said IRD President and CEO Terry Bergan. “As States become more aware of their need for high quality traffic information, the demand for these services continue to grow. This agreement further strengthens our long term maintenance strategy to grow and expand our Data Management and Field Services market.”
NYSDOT will use data collected from these sites to assess transportation needs and infrastructure performance, and to develop route planning, safety programs, highway design projects, as well as to designate and manage evacuation routes.
Founded in 1980, International Road Dynamics has its headquarters in Saskatoon, with offices in the United States, Chile, China, and India, and supplies products and systems for the global Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) industry.
IRD’s weigh-in-motion (WIM) system is an integrated sensor technology system that acquires real-time data on highway vehicles, including numbers, weight, type and traffic density, as well as records weather conditions.
The WIM system can be used to pre-screen trucks at Weight Inspection Stations, and to flag overloaded vehicles at toll facilities.
