One of Canada’s best tech analysts has a new home.
Blair Abernethy, recently of Stifel Nicolaus Canada, has moved to Cantor Fitzgerald Canada.
The move comes as tech is experiencing a wave of interest in Canada not seen since the late 1990’s. Abernethy says tech is a firm-wide focus for Cantor, but investors shouldn’t expect a bump free ride.
“The Canadian technology sector experienced a resurgence of investor interest this year, which we expect to continue in 2014, but stocks won’t move in a straight line up!” he says. “We see the sector as attractive as many technology companies offer good growth prospects in a slow-growth macro environment. Growth is being driven by new products, recurring revenue models, international expansion and accretive acquisitions, all of which can continue for some time.”
Prior to joining Cantor Fitzgerald Abernethy previously held positions at Clarus Securities, Paradigm Capital and HSBC Securities. The analyst became a free agent after Stifel Nicolaus decide to shutter it Canadian operations.
