AI adoption is just getting started, this investor says

SPEAR Invest founder and CIO Ivana Delevska says concerns about a slowdown in AI development are misplaced, even as recent comments from Anthropic’s CEO weighed on technology stocks.

Speaking on BNN Bloomberg’s Market Call on Sept. 16, Delevska said investors initially feared AI companies would slow investment in frontier models.

She said the more likely outcome is greater caution before new models are released, along with more spending on cybersecurity and safety reviews.

“I don’t think that it will ultimately affect the pace of development,” Delevska said.

The investor said AI companies may need agreed-upon safety standards, but she does not see regulation as a near-term bottleneck.

Delevska also said she does not expect a slowdown in AI hardware investment.

She said spending has shifted from large data centre buildouts tied to model training toward more distributed infrastructure supporting inference and agentic AI.

On the investment side, Delevska said the AI trade is becoming more selective.

“You really need to pick and choose the areas you want be invested in, but the fundamentals remain very strong,” she said.

She said AI adoption remains in the early innings, particularly for applications and use cases built on top of the models.
