Auto industry giant Ford has recently gone above and beyond and created a concept crib for babies who have difficulty falling asleep in anything other than a car.
Max Motor Dreams is what Ford has dubbed its new concept and it was created to simulate the environment of a car ride without having to leave your home, so you and the baby can sleep peacefully. All it requires is that you go out for a night drive with their app open so it can record the cars movements and sound. Then when you get back home you can hook it up to the crib and it will simulate the drive you went for.
“After many years of talking to mums and dads, we know that parents of newborns are often desperate for just one good night’s sleep. But while a quick drive in the family car can work wonders in getting baby off to sleep, the poor old parents still have to be awake and alert at the wheel,” said Alejandro López Bravo, the cot’s designer to Roadshow.
The crib features a speaker on the bottom which emulates the gentle noises of the engine, it rocks side to side gently to imitate the cars movements, and has a mesh screen all the way around it with LED’s which can simulate street lights. Hopefully some measures are in place to stop careless drivers from uploading their parking lot drift runs into the crib.
“Working on these types of projects with such long development times represents not only a technological challenge, but also a creative one. We’ve created a crib which, when connected to a car via an app, makes our day-to-day lives easier,” said a member of the team that helped to create the Max Motor Dreams crib, in a video which was released by Ford.
Other cribs have been released before which can rock the baby back and forth to help them sleep, while also emitting white noise, such as the Snoo. But this is the first I could find of one that imitates a car ride, well except of course for the Sleeptight which was released in the late 1980’s and was just clipped onto the crib and made it vibrate while making noises and was supposed to help with a baby who was showing signs of colic.
Unfortunately, for those of you who have become interested in the Max Motor Dreams, since it is still a concept and very few have been created it will not be available for purchase unless Ford sees enough of a demand, and it probably won’t be cheap. Ford may make it may be possible to win one of the Max Motor Dream cribs by entering a raffle, but in order to enter you have to test drive one of Fords MAX vehicles. Always a catch.
