NeuLion is reaping the benefits from 4K TV migration, CEO says

Roy Reichbach, President and CEO of NeuLion in Toronto on January 18, 2017.

Speaking yesterday at the 2017 Cantech Investment Conference in Toronto, Roy Reichbach, President and CEO of online video technology company NeuLion (NeuLion Stock Quote, Chart, News: TSX:NLN), says advances in home video technology have really opened up the landscape for live content delivery.

“Digital is where things have been moving to and are moving to, said Reichbach. “With the advent of 4K and the proliferation of 4K TV sets we are seeing a huge uptake in the need and the demand for digital delivery.”

NeuLion provides video streaming services for some of the world’s biggest sports platforms, including the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the World Cup, the UFC as well as the live streaming of last summer’s Rio Games in China. In 2015, NeuLion supported streaming services for over 63,000 live events across over 180 countries worldwide, says Reichbach, with the numbers for 2016 to be even stronger.

“One of the ways we grow our business is we can start with one product set and move to multiple product sets,” says Reichbach. “With the UFC, we convinced them that over time, they had a fight library that was worth getting subscription revenue out of. Today, that fight library is extremely successful.”

NeuLion recently announced it has begun commercializing its software development kit to enable smart TV manufacturers to provide features such as playback, mobile to TV interactivity, total security, and live streaming of up to 4K resolution video. Last year, NeuLion supported three UFC pay-per-view events in 4K, made available only on Sony Ultra HD TVs.

“NeuLion is continuously changing how viewers experience entertainment, including by developing advanced innovations on the devices consumers use to watch live sports, TV shows, movies and more,” said Reichbach. “We are proud to license our technology to the biggest brands in consumer electronics to enable high-quality video streaming, up to 4K Ultra HD. By combining the NeuLion CE SDK with the NeuLion Digital Platform, we have created a powerful solution enabling Ultra HD connected devices to seamlessly stream live sports and entertainment content.”
