A Georgetown, Ontario family of four are this year’s winners of the retrofestive.ca Outrageous Holiday Home Search contest. Their Christmas lights certainly qualify as outrageous, plus it’s all for a good cause.

The Lambert family’s setup consists of over 80,000 lights which are hooked up to dance along to music the family plays over their personal radio station that can be tuned into by spectators on their car radios. Their family’s display has been added to for the last 15 years.

In a video the family posted to YouTube you can see how truly spectacular the lights are as they synchronously dance along with Christmas music. Words don’t do them much justice, so check it out. Their display is even topped off with the notorious leg lamp from A Christmas Story which the family won as a trophy six years ago for their crazy Christmas lights and is on full display in their front window. Isn’t it beautiful? Like a major award!

The Griswold-like display has even gotten the attention of mainstream media.

We’re just trying to spread some Christmas cheer to everyone around us and not to mention we have alot of fun putting together the show. Have a happy holidays and a Merry Christmas from the Lambert Family.” Said Reddit user LambChop94 on December 24^th who claims to be a member of the Lambert family.

Over the years that the Lamberts has been participating in this outrageous Christmas lights show; they have collected more than $50,000 in donations all for their local Georgetown hospital.

Perhaps owing to the relatively cheap price of LEDs, Christmas light displays have become such a big deal that there is now even a TV show in the United States called “The Great Christmas Light Fight”. It has been airing since December of 2013 and has four separate seasons, the newest of which features an Ontario family. Contestants of the show compete for $50,000 per episode. The De Sario family was featured on an episode which aired on December 12^th and were put up against three American families.

The De Sario family has been decorating their home with over 50,000 LED lights for nearly 20 years and has raised around $150,000 for The Hospital for Sick Children. Last year alone they managed to raise $15,000.

“We are aware there are excellent light displays in Canada and it didn’t make sense to limit the casting pool to American citizens,” and also  “I think (the De Sario’s) display is fantastic. It’s amazing how much height they got. They are on the same playing field (as their American counterparts).” Said Brady Connell, executive producer and director for The Great Christmas Light Fight, to insidertoronto.com.

If the Lambert’s have put Canada on the map for Christmas, they aren’t alone. Vancouver is home to the worlds largest Christmas light maze, the 55,000 square-foot area features amazingly lit sculptures, the maze itself, a Christmas market with over 40 food vendors, 12 food trucks, and even a liquor license. Ticket prices are $19.95 for adults and $14.95 for children and will remain open until the new year.
