6.4 billion IoT devices are forecast to be connected worldwide this year, representing a large but complex opportunity for business, both in the form of creating new revenue streams and improving customer experience, not to mention an opportunity to reduce costs.
“Canadian businesses are increasingly looking to deliver Internet of Things solutions globally, and to do so they require technology that allows them to rapidly scale their solutions quickly and cost effectively,” said Charlie Wade, Senior Vice President, Products & Solutions, Rogers Communications. “We’ve worked with G&D and tapped into our relationships with carriers worldwide to offer our customers a solution that allows for a seamless global deployment, all using a single SIM, on a single platform.”
Rogers powers over 1.5 million M2M and IoT connections.
The new single SIM solution, fully integrated with the Rogers IoT platform, will automatically connect IoT devices to local provider networks, eliminating the need to substitute local SIMs in each country, which has the effect of reducing costs and reducing go-to-market lag time.
Owing to global carrier relationships that Rogers has established with the M2M World Alliance, businesses can retain insights into all of their connected devices and subscription management, while continuing to use the Rogers platform, despite being on a local network.
Fleet management, for example, can be done using the single SIM and monitored over the one platform to capture data from all vehicles no matter which jurisdiction they’re in.
M2M World Alliance is the world’s largest IoT/M2M inter-operator partnership, and includes nine international members spread across six continents in 70 countries.
