Waterloo's Terepac Corporation showcased at Cisco's Internet of Things Innovation Centre

Waterloo, Ontario’s Terepac Corporation has been chosen to participate in Cisco’s just launched Internet of Things Innovation Centre in Toronto.
The building itself, a 15,000 square foot high-rise at 88 Queens Quay West just south of Union Station and the Gardner Expressway, boasts smart features such as real-time monitoring of outdoor daylight levels and temperature, as well as occupancy inside the building, and represents the first large scale commercial high-rise with Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) LED lighting and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) in the Americas.
“Cisco’s thought leadership in IoT combined with this world-class facility makes this venue an ideal place to display our ONE Machine and ONE Water solutions,” says Terepac CEO Ric Asselstine. “City managers, investors and visionaries can see how giving voice to the world can make cities and workplaces safer, smarter and more efficient. It really is a glimpse into the near-future of everything.”
Visitors to the space will see Terepac’s ONE IoT platform, a security-focused cloud-based software package that gathers and analyzes data collected through sensors designed to provide solutions ranging from smart city applications to the manufacturing or oil and gas sectors.
ONE Water, for example, is a municipal water monitoring system that can be retrofitted into existing infrastructure to provide municipalities insights into optimizing their systems.
ONE Machine, meanwhile, is a magnetically attached sensor system for remotely monitoring machines.
With the Internet of Things becoming reality, Terepac’s focus has been on data security, having assembled a team who previously worked for Research in Motion, making it yet another company in the Waterloo ecosystem composed of BlackBerry refugees applying their talents to new, smaller companies.
