Shopify to host inaugural partner and developer conference in San Francisco

Ottawa eCommerce giant Shopify (TSX:SH, NYSE:SHOP) has announced its inaugural partner and developer conference, called Unite, to be staged March 22-23 at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.
On its blog, Shopify writes that its team “has been quietly working away on one of the biggest and most ambitious initiatives ever conceived for our partner and app developer community.”
The conference, billed as an exploration of the future of commerce, will be a chance to connect directly with core members of the Shopify team, as well as with the company’s partners, and to hear “exclusive details” about the future of the platform.
Although registration for the Unite conference is now open, prospective attendees must apply for tickets and will be approved by specific criteria, which sort applicants according to “whether you’re building awesome things that could, or have already, made valuable contributions to the Shopify ecosystem. Established Shopify Partners and App Developers will be automatically approved.”
Last May, Shopify went public, lending a morale boost to Canada’s tech sector.
Shopify was founded in 2007 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake, whose Snowdevil online snowboard retail outlet prompted the development of an eCommerce solution in the absence of one that suited their needs.
Between 2012 and 2014, the company’s revenues rose from $23.7 million to $105 million, processing more than $5 billion worth of transactions in 2014 for more than 100,00 retail customers in 150 countries, including IBM and General Electric.
Shares are worth $35.53 this afternoon.
