TouchBistro introduces restaurant POS suite for Apple iPad Pro

Toronto-based point-of-sale developer for the restaurant and food/drink retail sector TouchBistro has announced its first POS suite for the new iPad Pro, TouchBistro 7.0 , which will be available on the Apple App Store in January.

The iPad Pro has a 12.9 inch screen, with a resolution of 5.6 million pixels, making it 78% larger than the 9.7 inch iPad Air 2 screen.

In addition, TouchBistro is expanding its overall product offering, introducing a Kitchen Display System (KDS), Customer Facing Display (CFD) and Menu App.

“TouchBistro 7.0 takes advantage of the speed and technological advances in the iPad Pro, and makes them accessible to restaurants and bars in a truly innovative POS solution that is designed to be used as the heart and operating system of food service operations of all sizes,” said TouchBistro CEO and founder Alex Barrotti. “With waiter conveniences like an optional right- or left-hand interface, to major features like unlimited menus and floor plans, to accepting payments of all kinds including digital and EMV chip and pin cards, TouchBistro is committed to engineering the best technology into an affordable, easy-to-use, and flexible package that provides the exact functionality a flourishing restaurant needs.”

TouchBistro claims that wait staff who are used to using legacy systems may prefer the larger surface area of the iPad Pro, and that the new interface will allow for unlimted menus and bigger floor plans for larger restaurants.

The Kitchen Display System places the order in front of kitchen staff on an iPad Pro, rather than relying on the old method of written orders placed in a hanging queue.

The Customer Facing Display can be used in fast-food environments, where customers might select their order while seated at the counter.

The Menu App can showcase menu items for patrons, including wine lists and specials.

“The TouchBistro suite of products offers flexibility and simplicity that is easily tailored to any type of restaurant or bar, from QSRs to high-end full service establishments,” says Barrotti. “TouchBistro users can depend on us to continually deliver the functionality they need, using the best and latest technology as it becomes available, in an intuitive format. TouchBistro is an affordable replacement for dated POS systems and long expensive contracts, and without the expensive upfront costs for proprietary hardware.”

In June, Business News Daily rated TouchBistro the best POS system for restaurants.

TouchBistro also won gold in the international “App of the Year” category in the Best in Biz Awards.

Last April, TouchBistro closed a $6 million Series A round of funding, through existing investors Kensington Capital Partners, Relay Ventures and Difference Capital, while adding a strategic partner in the form of Danish-founded, U.K.-based JUST EAT.
