Me-Ality Raises $15 Million for Body Scanning Clothing Fit Technology

Me-Ality has developed a tool that delivers more precise body measurements.

Me-Ality, aka. Unique Solutions Design Ltd., has oversubscribed round of funding of $15 million, which initially had a target raise of $10 million. The funding round was co-led by Northwater Capital Management Inc., via its Intellectual Property Fund, and the company’s new director, Skip Battle, who also serves as chairman of the board at FICO (Fair Isaac Corporation), and also a Director at Netflix Inc., Workday, Expedia and LinkedIn.

With offices in Halifax, Santa Clara and Philadelphia, Me-Ality has developed a patented and IP protected system of body measurement to help solve the problem of finding garments that fit you perfectly.

While the technology has the obvious benefit of matching your personal measurements with clothing that’s likely to fit, which the company calls the MeID Sizing Application, it is also helping create a large, highly information-rich database that will have applications for marketers keen to observe consumer trends, with consequences across several other industries such as health, fitness, insurance, ergonomics and gaming.

Unique Solutions Design was founded in 1994, applying technology to the fitness garment industry. Since then, they have helped pioneer 3D body imaging data capture and claim to be “the exclusive owners the largest database of body measurements that reflect the true size and shape of today’s consumer.”

Founder Tanya Shaw, a native of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, is a graduate of Dalhousie University’s costume design program.

Last year Tuoc Luong was installed as Unique Solutions CEO, having previously worked with Skip Battle as Ask.com.

The funding is intended to help commercialize the company’s proprietary handheld body scanner in international markets.
