Hootsuite Part Two? Vancouver’s Brightkit emerges from Invoke incubator

Brightkit CEO Richard HungerfordIs this Hootsuite part two?

Memelabs, a Vancouver startup that was born from Invoke, the incubator that brought the world Hootsuite, today rebranded as Brightkit, and doubled down on its Hootsuite connection.

Brightkit, which has already carved out an interesting niche for itself in building user-generated contests and branded Instagram and Twitter galleries for clients such as KFC, Tommy Bahama and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation a is now part of HootSuite’s App Directory.

CEO Richard Hungerford says the deal with Hootsuite is a natural.

“With the release of our App within HootSuite, clients will be able to manage and moderate their Brighkit campaigns directly from the HootSuite dashboard. We know that 90% of Fortune 100s are already using the HootSuite dashboard to manage their social media, so this creates a huge market opportunity for us. ”

Invoke, which was founded by Ryan Holmes, David Tedman and Dario Meli, has two parts to its business – Invoke Labs and Invoke Media. Invoke Labs, the product incubation arm is most notable for the development of Hootsuite.

“Social media is an incredibly important tool for many businesses” says Holmes. “Brightkit has developed a platform that allows brands to interact with their social audiences in a unique and engaging way. With the integration into HootSuite, clients can manage their Brighkit social marketing campaigns through the app.”

Brightkit, of course, will have a ways to go in the funding department to match its big brother. Hootsuite’s recent $165-million raise was largest deal in Canadian venture capital history.
