Tom Astle joins Mike Wekerle at Difference Capital

Tom Astle, who is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), led investment teams at Merrill Lynch and National Bank Financial, and was consistently ranked the top analyst in his sector for many years by Brendan Woods.

Veteran tech analyst Tom Astle has left Byron Capital Partners and joined Bay Street legend Mike Wekerle at Difference Capital (Difference Capital Stock Quote, Chart, News: TSXV:DCF).

In a press release issued today, Difference said Astle would evaluate companies, produce thought pieces on investment themes and technology sectors, and periodically update the company’s shareholders on its investee companies.

“Tom is a great addition to Difference Capital,” said Mike Wekerle. “Tom’s 20 years of top quality fundamental analysis provides Difference with another complementary skill set to our team. His ability to identify opportunities and understand the value of technology and knowledge-based companies will contribute to the long term success of DCF. Tom has proven that he can discover value and he has also managed and grown high quality research teams. We look forward to Tom applying his skills at Difference Capital.”

Astle, who is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), led investment teams at Merrill Lynch and National Bank Financial, and was consistently ranked the top analyst in his sector for many years by Brendan Woods. Difference Capital, which went public last year, was founded by Mike Wekerle, Paul Sparkes, Henry Kneis and Neil Johnson. The company has made investments into both public and private companies, including Guestlogix, Amaya Gaming, ePals, Crailar, Virgin Gaming and Parta Dialogue.

Earlier this month, the firm added Jamie Brown from Canaccord as partner.
