Samsung Galaxy S4 coming to Canada April 27th

Virgin Mobile Canada joined Rogers, Telus and Fido in offering pre-orders of the Samsung Galaxy S4, which is expected to be priced between $199 and $299 on a 3-year contract.

Virgin Mobile Canada has just announced it will today begin taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S4, and delivery of the device will begin April 27th.

The provider, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bell, joins Rogers, Telus and Fido in offering pre-orders of the new smartphone, which is expected to be priced between $199 and $299 on a 3-year contract.

The Galaxy S4 has a 13-megapixel back camera, and a 4.99-inch 1080p display. The phone has several innovative features, including eye tracking. Users can, for instance, pause a video by looking away from the screen. The gesture based interface also allows for a page to be scrolled by swiping a hand over the screen, without touching it.

Samsung Canada’s Paul Brennan said some of the device’s features were based on customer feedback.

“Samsung is proud to bring the highly anticipated Samsung GALAXY S4 to Canadians with Virgin Mobile,” he said. “The GALAXY S4 was developed based on consumer insights and this device is a proof point of people inspired innovation. We feel that the GS4 will truly enhance the way Canadians live, inspiring them to capture unforgettable moments in more ways than ever before.”

Worldwide, the S4 passed 10 million pre-orders in the first two weeks after its announcement.

With sales of $179-billion last year, Samsung is the world’s largest electronics company. According to IDC reports, the company now has a 29% share of the global mobile market, the 7% share it has gained since 2011 now puts it significantly ahead of second place Apple.
