The one skill Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg think kids should learn

Do you remember the algebra you learned in Grade 10? How about Grade 12 physics? Still know how to serve a volleyball?

Some of the most important business figures of our time think there is a skill our kids need to be exposed but, for the most part, just aren’t.

Code.org has posted a video featuring Zuckerberg, Gates, Zappo’s CEO Tony Hsieh, -even Miami Heat star Chris Bosh, who was in a high school coding class called “The Whiz Kids”- talking about the importance of coding.

Zuckerberg, for instance, says FaceBook tries to hire as many talented people as it can find, but it simply cannot find enough people with the right skill sets.

The piece opens with a quote from the late Steve Jobs, who said “Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer…because it teaches you how to think.”

Code.org, a non-profit foundation dedicated to growing computer programming education, was founded by Hadi Partovi and boasts tech lumineries like Netscape co-founder Marc Andreessen, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and PayPal co-founder Max Levchin on its advisory board.

The organization says a million of the best jobs in America may go unfilled because only one in ten students knows how to code.
