Mitel moves centuries old publisher Brill to the Cloud

The offices of Brill in Leiden, Holland. How pervasive is cloud-based business? Even companies with hundreds of years of history are now embracing it.

Ottawa’s Mitel (TSX:MNW) today announced that publishing house Brill, whose history goes back to the 17th century, is replacing its legacy communication platform with a Mitel cloud solution.

Brill will adopt the Virtual Mitel® Communications Director (vMCD) platform to connect its workers in Germany, Switzerland and the United States who telecommute.

Marcel Prins, IT coordinator at Brill, said he expects Mitel’s system will be a marked improvement over what the company is currently using.

“Our system was really dated and difficult to manage,” he said. “With locations in several countries and people working from different places, we were looking for a communication platform that supports all our immediate needs, and gives us the flexibility to grow and change in the future. The Mitel solution fits in our virtual strategy and will enable us to collaborate more efficiently regardless of location.”

Founded in 1683, Netherlands-based Brill publishes over 500 books per year in both print and electronic format. The company publishes noted reference works including The Hague Academy Collected Courses, Encyclopedia of Islam, and Brill’s New Pauly.

At press time, shares of Mitel on the TSX were up 5% to $3.99.
