New York Times praises BlackBerry 10 as “ingenious”, and “mind-blowing”

New York Times tech writer David Pogue: “BlackBerry’s Hail Mary pass, its bet-the-farm phone, is finally here. It’s the BlackBerry Z10, and guess what? It’s lovely, fast and efficient, bristling with fresh, useful ideas.

“I’m sorry. I was wrong.”

Those are the first words of New York Times technology writer David Pogue’s article on the BlackBerry 10 penned today, called “The BlackBerry, Rebuilt, Lives to Fight Another Day”.

Pogue says he was wrong when he told someone recently that BlackBerry was doomed. His review of the new devices is a straight rave.

“Nobody believed anything the company said anymore,” he says.

“Besides — even if there were some great phone, what prayer did BlackBerry have of catching up to the iPhone and Android phones now? Even Microsoft, with its slick, quick Windows Phone, hasn’t managed that trick. Well, BlackBerry’s Hail Mary pass, its bet-the-farm phone, is finally here. It’s the BlackBerry Z10, and guess what? It’s lovely, fast and efficient, bristling with fresh, useful ideas.”

Pogue praises the BB10’s display: “even sharper than the iPhone’s vaunted Retina display”, the BlackBerry Hub: ” a one-stop command center that makes eminent sense,” the virtual keyboard: “mind-bogglingly clever” and the Time-Shift camera: “mind-blowing.”

Pogues sentiments seem to echo the larger United States, where the BlackBerry brand is undergoing a small revival.
