Yes this is real: Samsung launches GALAXY Note II Gangnam Style

“Gangnam Style” has become so popular that shares of South Korea semiconductor testing equipment DI Corp have risen nearly 500%, simply because the company’s chairman, Park Won Ho, is PSY’s father. In a move that will no doubt have critics asking “Why didn’t Research in Motion think of that?” Korean conglomerate Samsung today announced it will launch the Samsung GALAXY Note™ II Gangnam Style.

To be precise, “Gangnam Style” is a reference to the manner of the launch of the device in Canada, which will coincide with the first Canadian appearance of South Korean pop-star, PSY.

Paul Brannen, Vice President, Mobile Communications at Samsung Canada described the launch of the hybrid device. “The new Samsung GALAXY Note II is the ultimate smartphone for on-the-go productivity and content creation so we are thrilled to team up with PSY to launch this category-leading device – Gangnam Style,” he said, adding: “The growing popularity of Samsung’s latest product category – the GALAXY Note has been overwhelmingly positive and we are excited to introduce this device to the Canadian market.”

The launch event will happen on October 30, 2012 at The Kool Haus in, Toronto and the device will be rolled out to all major Canadian carriers the same day.

“Gangnam Style” is a single by South Korean rapper PSY. The song, which was was released on July 15, has become a worldwide hit, known as much for its signature animal inspired dance moves as the song itself. The title references to the trendy Gangnam district of Seoul.
