Wi-LAN’s (TSX:WIN) freshly launched Gladios IP, a division of the Ottawa-based patent player that works with other companies to try and unlock the value of their patents, launched its first lawsuit today.

Wi-LAN and 01 Communique (TSX:ONE) announced they have commenced litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia against Bomgar Corporation for patent infringement of its remote access technology.

Misssissipi-based Bomgar Corp was founded in 2002 by Joel Bomgar, who was working as a field network engineer for a Jackson, Mississippi-based systems integrator in 2002 to help pay his college tuition. Tired of the “non-billable drive time in the air condition-less LeSabre” says the company’s website, Bomgar developed the first version of his “remote support software as a way to provide remote technical support to disparate users without leaving his desk.” Today, the company has more than six-thousand clients.
