Cantech Letter Model Portfolio up 18%

Canadian Stock News Cantech

On September 26th, 2008 Cantech Letter began profiling Canadian technology stocks in a now regular feature we call Quant Snapshots. Quant Snapshots give our readers the ability to easily compare stocks in terms of basic value metrics such as price to sales and cash to market capitalization. During that time we began to gather those that ranked highest across these five metrics into a index of sorts. These stocks now number eighteen and represent the Cantech Letter Model Portfolio.

On the back of record high resource prices The Toronto Stock Exchange has rallied to a two year high, closing Friday, October 8th at 12,535. This puts the exchange 3.3% higher than it was on September 26, 2008, when we added the first stock into our Model Portfolio. Despite the fact that there are, by definition, no mining or metals stocks in the Cantech Letter Model Portfolio, this collection of stocks is now up 18%, beating the TSX’s numbers by 14.7%.
